YDS Youth Club
THURSDAY’s 7:30pm - 9:00pm
The Willingdon Trees Youth Project was started in the late 1980’s and is staffed by qualified youth workers who are employed by East Sussex County Council. Affiliated to the East Sussex Council for Voluntary Youth Services (ESCVYS), we are a voluntary sector youth club responsible for raising our own funds.
Our youth work is carried out in line with “Youth Development” principles and also monitored by them- within the “Every Child Matters” framework:-
PRINCIPLES
1 Voluntarily engaged in by young people.
2 Young people take part in the planning, evaluation and managing of the work.
3 It is educational.
4 Promotes equal opportunities and works in an in-discriminatory way.
5 Raises the hopes of young people and meets their individual needs.
EVERY CHILD MATTERS
1 BE HEALTHY - Young people are physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually healthy; lead healthy life styles and choose not to take illegal drugs.
2 STAY SAFE - Young people are safe from maltreatment, neglect, violence, sexual exploitation, accidental injury and death. They are also safe from crime and antisocial behaviour in and out of school, have security, stability and are cared for.
3 ENJOY & ACHIEVE - Young people attend and enjoy school, achieve personal and social development and enjoy recreation.
4 MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION - Young people engage in decision making, support the community and environment, engage in positive behaviour in and out of school, develop positive behaviour and choose not to bully or discriminate and develop the self-confidence to deal with significant life changes.
5 ACHIEVE ECONOMIC WELL BEING - Young people engage in further education, employment or training on leaving school and are ready for employment. They live in decent homes and sustainable communities and have access to transport. They live in households free of low income and have access to material goods.
PROGRAMME
This is planned by our young people by term and is based on sports, arts and gives young people the opportunity to discuss issues which concern or affect them.
We meet during term-time only and are a group for young people in SECONDARY school only. There are membership forms and a weekly subscription.
