Phase 1 Opening Day.
I was honoured to open phase 1 of Holly Park at 10am today with Cllr Barbara Goodall. There were around 50 eager children and parents waiting at the gates. After a very loud countdown the gates were opened and the new playground very quickly filled up. Well done and thank you to evey one involved in the project so far.

The RoSPA Inspector came down this morning to inspect the playground and I am happy to report that everything was fine. Holly Park phase 1 will now officially open at 10am tomorrow.

A couple of rainy days slowed down the progress, but today the Soft Surface Company finished their work and all of the benches and bins were also installed.

The transformation has really taken effect now that the top layer of the safety surface is now being put down. Also the top soil has been added to the flower beds.

It's all getting so close now! Another really productive day on site saw the groundwork for the external flower beds dug and the remainder of the base course put down.

The Soft Surface company arrived on site today and began laying the base course. The new benches were also put together and the outer flower beds were marked out.

The totem poles were installed today and all of the boulders put into their final positions. Mounds will now be created at the base of two of the totems and the entire surface compaceted, ready for the soft surface.

Another site meeting was held today to solve any installation issues and give the partners a chance to check on the progress of the project. The second climbing station had been constructed and installed and the fantastic hand carved totem poles had been delivered to site.

The curved fence sections have all been installed, so apart from the works entrance, the exterior fence is complete. The measurements have been calculated for the next piece of equipment and the boulders have been placed around the play area.

Today, the foundations for the first climbing station were dug and then the UPM Tilhill team constructed and installed the piece. The curved fence sections are also due to arrive soon

Several main components were installed today including the Supernova and the remaining straight fencing was cemented in place. The team will now work carefully to ensure that all of the safety distances for each piece of equipment are correctly marked out.

Another great day on site. Today we had a fallen tree brought in from Ashdown Forrest for the climbing area. Matt Woodside from Farrer Huxley Architects was on site to maximise the layout of the area to suit the tree shape. We also discussed soft surface colours as we were informed by the suppliers that the purple we wanted bleaches to white.

The straight fencing work continues and the two gates have been installed. Site manager Mark also began to outline the climbing area. Perhaps the best part of the day though was the construction and installation of the first proper piece of equipment- a swing set. The work today also attracted lots of interest from school children on their way home. A great day's work!

All of the straight cement edging has been completed and the fencing is being installed along with the new safety gates. Much of the play equipment has also been delivered to site. Work is progressing really well.

Once all of the soil had been removed, several soft spots had to be re-inforced. Now all of the hard core can be put down and the edging work will be cemented in.

All of the demolition work has been completed and the foot print of the new play area is beginning to take shape.

Digging started properly today. The UPM Tilhill Site Manager established all of the ground levels after the fencing was removed yesterday.

Work is now under way on Phase 1 of this fantastic regeneration project for our local green space.
Today saw the protective fencing go up and then in came the storage and machineray. Shortly after, the demolition work started. A great day!
